Astronomy Day 2021

International Astronomy Day is a way for astronomy enthusiasts and professionals to share their knowledge and love of outer space with the general public. It is also a way for everyone interested in space to explore their passion and increase their knowledge.

Unfortunately due to COVID restrictions RASC Winnipeg Centre will be doing no outreach during this Astronomy Day but we encourage you to to attend the Manitoba Museum Manitoba Skies event. From the Planetarium:
This year, International Astronomy Day coincides with Manitoba Week celebrations! We’ll be doing a live telescope viewing of the Moon and planets beginning at 7 pm Central Time on Saturday, May 15, 2021. The early part of the show at 7 pm will focus on the Moon, while the second part (beginning around 9 pm) will also feature the sunset and the planets Mercury, Venus, and Mars. I’ll be on hand for live Q&A. You can register for the Zoom webinar here, or watch us live on the Manitoba Museum’s Facebook or YouTube channel.

The program will be hosted by Planetarium Astronomer Scott Young and will include commentary and discussion with other astronomers and guests around the world.  If the sky is cloudy, a live feed from another telescope in Canada will be shown with local commentary.
Schedule of events:
7:00 pm: telescope views of the Moon during daylight
7:45 pm: programming break
9:00 pm: programming resumes
9:10 pm: sunset; begin to look for planets in the telescope
10:30 pm: programming ends
The program will be offered via Zoom webinar (registration required) and will be livestreamed to the Manitoba Museum’s Facebook and YouTube pages (see links below). A digital device and internet connection are required to participate.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. One registration is good for one device
Or join us live at 7 or 9 pm on May 15 via Facebook or YouTube.
