RASC Winnipeg Centre Programs
The Winnipeg Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada is an active group of astronomy enthusiasts who offer a variety of programs for our members. We provide the tools and instruction for members and the public to experience the universe in a variety of ways, from observing events to mentorship, loaner telescopes and a fully equipped astronomical observatory.
Explore the links below for more information about the Glenlea Observatory, our annual Spruce Woods Star Party, our Loaner Scopes program, our new Mentorship program!
The RASC Winnipeg Centre is pleased to provide members new and old with an opportunity to be paired with an experienced member to assist you in getting the most out of your Astronomy endeavors.
The Winnipeg Centre operates an observatory at the University of Manitoba’s Glenlea Research Station, just a 15 minute drive away from the city. The observatory site is fully equipped with a concrete pad for telescope set-up, tables for accessories, an on-site warm room and washroom facilities.
Spruce Woods Star Party
The Spruce Woods Star Party is the annual get-together of the Winnipeg RASC, held under the dark skies of Spruce Woods Provincial Park. Join us for a weekend of events, including guest speakers, a binocular tour of the night sky, telescope showcase, the RASC banquet, and of course long hours of observing and camraderie in scenic southern Manitoba.
Loaner Scope Program
The Winnipeg Centre maintains a number of telescopes for use by our members. Through this program, you can give observing with a telescope a shot to see if it’s something you’d like to pursue further, without having to drop a big chunk of change on a nice telescope.
